CFFA update for March 19

CFFA update for March 19
We had four people go to the Divisional qualifiers and all of them qualified for at least one event.  Will Golder fenced in the Div II/III and Y-14 men’s foil qualifiers.  He took the silver in the Y-14 and also qualified for Division III.  Nicole Milewski took silver in the Div II/III women’s epee and qualified for Div II.  Robert Thomas took bronze in Div II/III men’s epee and qualified for both of those plus Vet’s men’s epee.  Mike Kinney had the unfortunate occurrence of meeting Robert in his first DE, but still qualified for the Vet’s men’s epee.  Congratulations to all.

A regular week of practice this week.  Everything should be meeting at its regular time and place.

The
Lynn Krupey
Memorial Iron Maiden is March 24.  Entries are inching up and I still
hope that epee will become a C or higher rated event.  It only needs one more body.  It would be nice
to get foil up to where it would at least require two pools and sabre up
to where we will certainly have an E event.  Please get signed up ASAP.  Also
that day, we will be hosting the State Homeschool Individual
Championships.  It would be nice if those who are in the homeschool
class would turn out to support our fencers.  That starts at 1:30 pm, so
you also should be able to see some high level epee in the Iron Maiden
as well.

Also on that date is Mid-South’s RYC for Y10, Y12, and Y14 sabre.

Next week is spring break for the local schools, so no afterschool practice.  I am still planning to have homeschool practice on Wednesday.  Probably no Wednesday night practice as the UNCW people will probably be leaving for Easter break.  I will check with them.  No practice at Topsail or Camp Lejeune on Good Friday.

On
March 31 there is a U foil event and mixed epee in Charlotte.  The foil
is obviously good for a first adult tournament and the epee looks like
it should be at least a B, maybe an A event.

The next evening beginner class will start on Monday, April 2nd, at 6:30 pm.

St. Mary does not have school on April 2nd, but most other local schools do, so I will have afterschool practice.  The last beginner class of the school year will start this week.

April
7th is our next mixed event.  It is up on askfred and will have epee,
foil, and an E and under foil.  If we can find fifteen foilists, of whom
at least 4 are Es, there is the possibility of someone earning a D
without having to defeat the heavy hitters.  That also makes this a
really good event for someone looking for a first foil tournament.  At
the moment the epee looks like it will become rated, but hardly any foil
fencers are entered.

I am looking at changing the date of the next youth event to April 8th.  To avoid mass the schedule would be something like foil at 2 pm, epee and sabre at 5 pm.  Let me know how that works for people.

The last homechool beginner class of the year will start on April 11 at 1:30 pm.

No Saturday practice on the 14th due to Azalea Festival.  There is a large SYC shaping up in Fairfax, Virginia for those 14 and under.

April
20-23 is a NAC in Richmond.  The only people I saw who were signed up
were Brendan, KIm, Erica, Herman, and Nicole.  If I missed you, or you
sign up now (the extra fees would apply) please let me know.
